Ron Paul had over 4,000 supporters show up in Michigan yesterday!

Published February 28, 2012 by Sussex County Angel

Have you ever seen this much joy on the face of someone holding a sign for Mitt Romney? How about Newt Gingrich? Even Rick Santorum?

I’m guessing no.

Yesterday Ron Paul shared the following image on Facebook:

The image had the following headline:

We had an incredible turnout of 4,000 at Michigan State University today! Freedom really is popular!

It turns out that it’s not just Freedom that is popular, it’s Ron Paul! According to Rasmussin Reports:

Congressman Paul (R-TX) has defeated President Barack Obama in a Rasmussen Reports daily presidential tracking poll of general election voters released Monday. This is the first time that Mr. Paul has defeated Mr. Obama nationally. Mr. Paul garnered 43 percent of the votes among general election voters and Mr. Obama pulled 41 percent of the votes.

Did you see thousands of supporters as Mitt Romney rented out a stadium?

Nope, it was empty…

Ron Paul’s event looks like standing room only…

Super Tuesday is ever closer and Ron Paul supporters seem to be more and more active. Which other Republican candidates can say that?

Lee Wrights to be on the Angel Clark Show tonight!

Published February 28, 2012 by Sussex County Angel

I enjoyed my last chat with R. Lee Wrights. His southern drawl makes everything he says sound better (but it also helped that I really like what I heard!) so we’re having him back on!

Tonight on the Angel Clark Show on Radio Freedom we have R. Lee Wrights.

R. Lee Wrights is founder and editor of LibertyForAll.net, America’s premier online libertarian newsletter. Lee was born June 8, 1958 in Winston-Salem, N.C. and graduated from West Forsyth High School in Clemmons in 1976.

Lee enlisted in the U.S. Air Force after high school, and served as a medical services technician at Seymour-Johnson AFB, Goldsboro N.C. He was honorably discharged in 1981 with the rank of sergeant.

Lee earned a degree from Willmar College, Willmar, Minn. where he majored in history and journalism. After college, Lee was a contributing editor for the Eagle News, a monthly political news and commentary newspaper in Forsyth County.

In 2001 he began work as an editor of the Free Market Daily, a daily roundup of news and commentary e-mail newsletter distributed by FreeMarket.net.  When FreeMarket.net shut down suddenly in 2002, Lee joined a group that began the Rational Review News Digest in order to insure that the freedom movement would continue to be served by a daily web and email-based news and commentary roundup.

Lee has been an editor of the Rational Review News Digest, the freedom movement’s daily newsletter, ever since. From 2005 to 2008, Lee also worked as editor of the Choice Channel for the International Society for Individual Liberty.

He founded LibertyForAll.net with J. Michael Bragg in 2000. What began as a simple on-line forum for a small band of patriots to exchange ideas has grown into an internationally respected circle of liberty-loving writers and readers. LibertyForAll.net began as, and remains, a respected free speech publication where no one is turned away and no one is censored, true to their motto: “Let Your Voice Be Heard.”

As an editor for these online resources, Lee has focused not only on researching, compiling information, editing and writing articles and news digests for the freedom movement, but also helping libertarians and libertarian organizations make the most efficient use of websites, e-mail lists, e-letters and the other tools of the new media.

Lee has been active in local, state and national Libertarian Party organizations since 2000. He has served as secretary and chair of the Libertarian Party of Forsyth County, N.C. and was vice chair of the state Libertarian Party for seven years. He also served as the LPNC ballot access director for two years.

Lee served as an at-large member of the Libertarian National Committee and was LNC vice chair for two years. During his time on the LNC, Lee also served four years on the platform committee. He is currently a member of the LP judicial committee, elected to that body by the 2010 national convention.

In Texas where he now lives in Burnet, Lee is a past chair of the Burnet County LP and is the Senate District 24 representative to the Texas LP State Executive Committee. In 2008, Lee was campaign manager for the Mary Ruwart for President Committee and in 2010, he managed Mary’s campaign for Texas State Comptroller.

Lee is president of the Foundation for a Free Society, a 501c3 non-profit educational organization dedicated to promoting the principles of liberty, personal sovereignty, private property, and free markets in order to create a more free and prosperous society.

When he is not working for liberty, Lee works as the secretary and communications director for Sativa Science, a pharmaceutical start-up company.

Rick Santorum claims to fund raise better than Ron Paul

Published February 28, 2012 by Sussex County Angel

I was sent the following email by the Rick Santorum campaign yesterday:

 Team Santorum

119,058… that’s the number of donations Barack Obama’s re-election campaign is averaging per month. No one on the Republican side has even come close to Obama’s level… until now!

Today I am proudly announcing our campaign has had over 100,000 donors since February 1!

And while that is exciting we aren’t resting on our laurels. We still need to catch Obama and clearly demonstrate Republicans are rallying around OUR campaign as the conservative alternative to President Obama.

Team Santorum next bashed the competition for the amount of money they spent.

In addition to showing how strong we are this powerful sign of momentum will once and for all erase the myth that only Mitt Romney has the resources needed to defeat Barack Obama.

The truth of the matter is that despite raising $62.7 million since entering the race – Mitt Romney has “broken the bank” spending $55 million of it tearing down his opponents with shameless negative attack ads and published press reports indicate his campaign maybe struggling to raise money.

But you and I are just getting started. And surging past Obama with our February fundraising will show voters across America that we are ready to challenge and defeat Barack Obama in November.

It’s interesting that the Rick Santorum staff considers the number of individual contributions made to a campaign to be more important than the amount of money donated.

*A side note – as of 1/31/2012 Rick Santorum had a total of amount of $6.7 million in donations*

If the number of contributions is more important than the amount donated, does the same hold true to other campaign areas?

Rick Santorum has over 145,000 followers on Twitter. Ron Paul has two Twitter accounts with a combined total of over 380,000 followers. Who do you think is doing better?

Let’s look at Facebook instead. Rick Santorum has almost 160,000 fans on Facebook. Ron Paul has over 880,000 Facebook fans. Who do you think is doing better?

If Rick Santorum really has had over 100,000 donors since February 1 (I’m assuming 2012 although the email doesn’t specify that those donations were all made this year) there’s a chance that the same trend applies. The amount of donations is quite easy to find (as of 1/31/2012 Rick Santorum had 6.7 million total while Ron Paul had 30.9 million) yet the number of donors is more difficult to find a tally of. This writer has yet to find a tally.

So, do you think Rick Santorum has had more donors in the month of February than any other Republican Presidential Candidates?

UPDATE -  ”The Ron Paul 2012 Presidential Campaign announced today that it has raised more than $8 million in the third quarter from more than 100,000 unique donors” – This was 2011

Should it be illegal to eat pets? (Warning: may make you cringe)

Published February 20, 2012 by Sussex County Angel

Please understand before reading this article that this writer is not advocating the consumption of cute and cuddly kittens for any meal.

Have you ever heard the expression “I’m so hungry I could eat a horse”?  Did you think the person who said that should be in prison?  Or have you ever been to a Chinese restaurant and heard someone say “I hope the General Tso’s chicken is really chicken”?  What do you think that person was implying?

In California, a man was arrested on February 7, 2012, for eating cats:

Jason Louis Wilmert, 35, has pleaded not guilty to two charges — cruelty to animals and using animals commonly kept as pets or companions as food, KBAK-TV reported , citing court documents.

In the United States, it is common for Americans to look in shock as others eat food we consider unusual.  A prime example is the television show Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern.  Andrew Zimmern is a chef and foodie who travels around the world for the Travel Channel eating meals that make many Americans cringe.  A few examples of meals eaten by Andrew Zimmern include lizards, bats, guinea pig, seals, reindeer, camel, and practically every insect you could imagine.  (This writer will add that as someone who owned lizards it was quite difficult to watch Andrew Zimmern eat an iguana).

For many it is nice to watch someone travel around doing things that we will most likely never do.  Many of us forget that in some areas people have to eat foods we would normally never consider due to poverty, overpopulation, or even tradition.

In Cambodia in 2008, beef was $10 a pound – rat meat was $2.50 a pound.  One guess as to which meat you would find on the table of the poor more often during that time.  Garlic-flavored field rat quickly replaced many standard beef dishes.  Some families were even able to secure a better income by catching rats and making them “table-ready”.

In South Korea, dog meat is famous for its medicinal value (for cooling the body and improving virility).  In Japan, raw horse meat is a common finger food in bars while in China Turtle Shell Jelly is made up of exactly what you would imagine.  In Cambodia, tarantulas are said to have a great natural flavor and in Korea fermented baby mice are supposed to cure all kinds of ailments.

It is estimated that around 4 million cats are eaten in China each year and that the number of cats consumed is rising.

Jason Louis Wilmert’s alleged actions disgust this writer but should the eating of animals commonly considered pets be crimes?  My cat eats rabbits…

According to Bakersfield Eyewitness News:

At the district attorney’s office, Yraceburn said the law banning the eating of pets was enacted in 1989 and amended in 1996.

“It makes it against the law to use companion animals, or animals that are commonly kept as pets, for food,” Yraceburn explained. “Plain and simple.”

Eyewitness News checked the law and found it also does not apply to “any livestock, poultry, fish, shellfish, or any other agricultural commodity produced in the state.”

This law also doesn’t apply to the lawful killing of wildlife, or the legal killing of any animals under laws regarding game animals.

According to My Fox DC:

Supervising Deputy District Attorney Michael Yraceburn would not comment on the case, but he confirmed to The Bakersfield Californian that “the individual is being prosecuted for using cats as a food source.”

Yraceburn added that there were no reports of missing pets.

Again, this writer does not advocate the eating of cats (no matter the circumstances).

Now I add kitteh pictures to apologize for writing this to my cat – he’s watching me right now with a look that says he will be destroying my favorite sweater tonight…

Mike Ridgeway on Radio Freedom

Published February 13, 2012 by Sussex County Angel

Tonight on the Angel Clark Show on Radio Freedom we have Mike Ridgeway, a political activist who wants us to draft Judge Napolitano!

Mike Ridgway is a political activist and election reformer, and the founder of Republicans Elect. The goal and purpose of Republicans Elect is to help right-of-center Americans, (Conservatives, Republicans, Libertarians, Constitutionalists, etc.) exert the maximum amount of influence over the processes and the outcomes of the 2012 Republican National Convention and future such conventions.

Concerned that none of the current Republican candidates for president has the full package of qualities that America is looking for, Mike is intent on helping Americans understand that it’s not too late for other candidates to get into the race, nor is a draft movement on the floor of the convention out of the question.  Ridgway believes that one of these two things is has to happen in order to make it possible to limit President Obama to one term in office.

Mike has held numerous positions in the Utah Republican Party*, among them seats on the party’s State Executive and State Central Committees.

In 2008, working with Utah’s Republican National Committeewoman, Nancy Lord, Mike set in motion changes to the Republican National Committee (RNC) rules which have had the effect of greatly reducing the number of state parties which allocate their delegates on a winner-take-all basis and, simultaneously, increasing the number of state parties which allocate their delegates to the national convention on a proportional basis.

Ridgway’s optimism that an altered outcome is possible is based on the new dynamics created by these and other rules changes which have been adopted by the RNC since the last national convention.

Can we save FreedomWatch?

Published February 10, 2012 by Sussex County Angel

I posted this on my Examiner.com site yesterday. Today, I woke up and saw headlines stating that we may be able to save FreedomWatch. Apparently the response from the public has been noticed.

So don’t stop! Call, email, and sign the petition!

Many times I have seen a news article and thought to myself “I can’t wait to see what The Judge has to say about this”. Sadly, now I won’t get to watch his responses to the articles that I find.

Judge Andrew Napolitano’s FreedomWatch has been cancelled.

Fox Business claims:

Judge Napolitano will continue his role on both FOX Business and FOX News, providing key legal insights surrounding the growing intersection between Washington and Wall Street.

As more and more Liberty-Minded shows are taken off the air I urge you to contact Fox Business and let them know how you feel about the cancelling of FreedomWatch.

An update from Lew Rockwell’s website states the following:

Kevin Magee (Fox Executive VP) made the decision to cancel the show. Write him at Kevin.Magee@foxnews.com.

Write Fox CEO Roger Ailes’s assistant, Gena Dellaquila, at Gdellaquila@newscorp.com.

We are being heard. I am told that the Fox higher-ups are “stunned” at the public response.

UPDATE from a friend:

With respect, I suggest that complaints directed to Fox’s advertisers might also have great effect.

AntiWar.com says we can still save FreedomWatch – can’t hurt to try!

Judge Napolitano said the following on his Facebook Page:

sad news friends, but don’t worry I’ll still be here defending liberty.

Also, you may wish to sign this petition on Change.org.

My personal note to The Judge:

Judge Andrew Napolitano, I hope that you know how much I loved your show. You gave me hours of show prep. Your views were refreshing, open, and honest.

Does the Government work for you or do you work for the Government?

Does your job put you on a “Terror Watch” list?

Published February 9, 2012 by Sussex County Angel

The concept is simple, it’s the “see something, say something” campaign. We have to make sure that our neighbors are on the up-and-up, so to speak. But while you are watching you neighbors, who is watching you?

Everyone of course!

I want to thank Activist Post for sharing this list. The author (who wishes to remain anonymous) has done the hard work for me!
