Americans pay for Obama’s barber to be flown in from Chicago every two weeks

Published May 31, 2012 by Sussex County Angel

When was the last time you had your hair cut?  Chances are it has been longer for you than it has for President Obama. German Public Radio reported on Wednesday that the American taxpayers pay for President Obama to have his hair cut every 10 – 14 days.

The president of any country should look his or her best at all times and President Obama is no exception.  Obama was accustomed to having his hair cut by the same man, Zariff, who cut his hair for almost 20 years.  Now that Obama lives in Washington D.C., who cuts the president’s hair every two weeks?

Zariff, the same barber from Chicago, is flown to Washington D. C. from Chicago every 10-14 days.

The barber never says a word about what they discuss. Perhaps that’s also a reason why Obama feels comfortable being around him. Otherwise he would not fly his barber in from Chicago to Washington every ten to 14 days.

Opponents of ACTA had a symbolic win in European Parliament today

Published May 31, 2012 by Sussex County Angel

Thursday may have been a definitive day in the fight against the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA).  ACTA is a multi-national treaty meant to enforce intellectual property rights.  Australia, Canada, Japan, Morocco, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, the United States, and 22 countries of the European Union signed in ACTA.  Opponents of ACTA say that the treaty adversely affects privacy, freedom of expression, and other fundamental rights.

On Thursday, a number of committees spoke out against ACTA to the European Parliament (which is ACTA will ultimately be allowed to stay in or be written out of the books forever).  Five committees will give their recommendation to the European Parliament as to whether ACTA should stay.  One of those committees, the International Trade (INTA) committee “owns” ACTA, therefore will most likely recommend keeping the controversial treaty in place.  Three of the remaining four committees gave their recommendation to the European Parliament Thursday.  The Industry, Research, Energy (ITRE), the Legal Affairs (JURI), and the Civil Liberties (LIBE) committees all voted Thursday to reject ACTA.

Mayor Bloomberg wants to ban the sale of large sodas in New York

Published May 31, 2012 by Sussex County Angel

New York City and the Bloomberg administration plan to enact a ban on the sale large sodas and other sugary drinks at movie theaters, restaurants, and even street vendors in an effort to fight obesity.  The proposed ban, announced Wednesday in the Governor’s Room at City Hall, would affect the menu of almost every popular sugary drink in delis, fast-food restaurants, and even sports arenas.  In fact, the sale of any cup or bottle of the beverage larger than 16 fluid ounces would be prohibited.

As soon as next March, New York City may be banning any sugary beverages larger than a medium coffee.  From energy drinks to sweetened iced tea, large sugary drinks may soon be off the menu.  The ban would not include diet sodas, fruit juices, milkshakes, or alcoholic beverages.  The ban would also not extend to sugary beverages sold in grocery stores or convenience stores.

This proposal brought out the romantic in me

Published May 30, 2012 by Sussex County Angel

OK, so I’m not really a romantic kind of girl.  I play video games and like to watch blow-em-up movies.  I hate those crappy love songs where some guy swears he’ll die for a woman instead of promising that he’ll fight like Jason Statham to make sure no one can get close enough to be in a position to viably threaten her.

In other words, the Bruno Mars song, “I’ll catch a grenade for you”, drives me insane.

This other Bruno Mars song, however, just made me smile.

Business Insider:

Men around the country will either loathe or be inspired by Isaac Lamb—because he just set the bar for creative marriage proposals pretty high.

Last Wednesday, Lamb gathered more than 60 friends and family to organize a surprise lip-dub proposal of Bruno Mars’ “Marry Me” to his girlfriend, Amy Frankel.

The video subsequently went viral on YouTube, being watched more than 5 million times.

This may just top the viral video of Jill Peterson and Kevin Heinz‘ wedding party dancing to Chris Brown’s “Forever.”

Tea party favorite Ted Cruz forces GOP establishment into runoff in Texas

Published May 30, 2012 by Sussex County Angel

Tea Party favorite, Ted Cruz, has been campaigning in Texas against the GOP establishment, namely, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst.  Cruz has been endorsed by Ron Paul, Tea Party Express, FreedomWorks, Sarah Palin, and many others associated with the Tea Party.  Cruz was able to hold Dewhurst to gather under 50% of the vote Tuesday, forcing a runoff election between the two on July 31.

Nine candidates had been in the Republican field for Senate in Texas.  Ted Cruz, an attorney, and David Dewhurst, the owner of an energy consortia, both had the highest number of votes.  Dewhurst has been endorsed by Texas Gov. Rick Perry and managed to pour $15 million of his own funds into his campaign to become a senator.

“The voters of Texas want a leader who will be a strong conservative and a fighter, and the lieutenant governor’s record has not been conservative,” Cruz told The Associated Press.  “He has consistently compromised with Democrats, increased spending and increased taxes,” Cruz said. “Despite a mountain of money trying to paint a very different picture, the voters of Texas held him accountable.”

A new Public Policy Polling survey found that Rick Perry’s endorsement actually hurts candidates now.  24 percent of likely Republican primary voters say they would prefer a candidate backed by the infamous Gov. Perry, while 28 percent say they’d be more likely to decline a candidate based on the endorsement of Perry.  In such a close race, that 28% of Republican voters may make quite a difference.

Head of IMF criticizes Greeks over taxes but pays no taxes on $500,000 salary

Published May 30, 2012 by Sussex County Angel

Christine Lagarde has been the managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) since January 5, 2011 after her predecessor, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, was accused of rape.  Lagarde, it seems, may be as loose with her words as Strauss-Kahn was with his relationships.  After the rumors that Greece would be leaving the Euro zoneon June 18, Lagarde said she had more sympathy for the victims of poverty in sub-Saharan Africa than the Greeks who have been hit by the economic crisis.

As far as Athens is concerned, I also think about all those people who are trying to escape tax all the time. All these people in Greece who are trying to escape tax.”

View slideshow: Lagarde at a press conference

Ms Lagarde went on to say: ‘I think they should also help themselves collectively… By all paying their tax.’

Lagarde was instantly criticized for her “humiliation” of the Greek people.  Evangelos Venizelos, the Greek socialist leader, stated that no one, including Lagarde, had the right to humiliate an insult the Greek people.  That was when the word spread that Lagarde herself does not pay taxes on her almost $500,000 yearly salary.

David Talbot, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Salon.com to be on Radio Freedom tonight

Published May 29, 2012 by Sussex County Angel

Tonight on the Angel Clark Show on Radio Freedom we have David Talbot.  David will be discussing his new book, Season of the Witch.

San Francisco was the cradle of the 1960s, giving birth to everything from rock legends like Janis Joplin to new ideas like consumer safety and gay marriage.  It also brought us murder and mayhem from Charles Manson to kool-aid at Jonestown, all while bringing us closer to the inevitable clash between conservative America and the nation’s youngsters proclaiming free love.

In SEASON OF THE WITCH (Free Press; May 8, 2012; Hardcover; $28.00),  New York Times bestselling author of Brothers and Salon founder and CEO David Talbot recounts the gripping story of rock music, drugs, and violence which transformed both San Francisco and the entire country.  From its Irish Catholic roots and conservative city hall, to the fiery Harvey Milk and burgeoning music scene, Talbot brings this era’s characters to life and shows how this city brought an openness to change to America.  With intimate portraits of larger than life people like Jerry Garcia and “The Napoleons of Rock” Charles Sullivan and Bill Graham, we can live and breathe one of the most radical times in American history.

David Talbot is uniquely poised to tell his city’s story, and in his book he discusses:

·         Tales of drugs and rock music that were the birth of legends from Janis Joplin to The Grateful Dead

·         Real life looks at the people behind the fame, from Harvey Milk to Jim Jones

·         SF’s Irish Catholic values that solidified in the 1930’s, which came into violent clashes with the young people promoting 1960’s values

·         How the nation’s children began running away in droves to SF, which culminated in everything from gay liberation to consumer protections

·         How Haight-Asbury became the front line of battle between controlling, religious City Leaders and the people fighting for liberal values

·         The manifestation of “The Diggers” who embodied San Francisco values and became the foundation of SF counterculture

·         The movers and shakers of SF’s burgeoning music scene, like Charismatic Charles Sullivan who built up The Filmore and whose murder is still shrouded in mystery, and his successor, the dynamic Bill Graham who carried the mantle and worked with Janis Joplin, The Grateful Dead, and many other legendary bands

Embodying a piece of San Francisco’s soul, David Talbot has managed to capture the essence of the people, events, and time period that shaped the city, and continues to shape the nation.  Speak with David Talbot for an inside look at the powerful forces that created San Francisco values, and how they are currently clashing with America’s other values for a heated Culture War.
