Vance Phillips and an anonymous letter

Published June 16, 2012 by Sussex County Angel

OK – so there’s this via Delaware Liberal:

BREAKING & DEVELOPING: DSP Investigating Anonymous Letter Sent to DE House Members that Includes Criminal Allegations Against an Elected Official

I have been given an overview of what is in the letter from a source. Apparently, the contents of the letter have been an open secret or a well traveled rumor in Sussex County Republican circles for the last two years, and involve all the star players of the Sussex County Republican Party. Indeed, if the contents of the letter are true, it will devastate the Sussex County Republican Party and ruin the careers of three prominent Sussex County Republicans, and possibly lead to their criminal indictments.

The anonymous letter was sent to every single member of the House of Representatives. It contains allegations that Sussex County Councilman Vance Phillips was involved with a minor female, aged 17 years old, two years ago, during the 2010 campaign. The implication is that this relationship was sexual, and I am told from another source that it was consensual.

I am told the letter goes into detail as to places and times where Phillips and the minor female were together. I am also told that this has been known in Republican circles of power downstate for some time. Indeed, allegedly, Glenn Urquhart knew about the affair, confronted Phillips about it, and, together with the minor female’s family, had her sent away to a religious school in another state.

The alleged affair colored the relationship between Phillips and Sheriff Jeff Christopher, who also may have known about the affair. Indeed, you recall the physical altercation between Phillips and Christopher over the Sheriff’s illegal and unconstitutional power grab? Well, allegedly, one of the witnesses of that altercation was the minor female’s grandfather. If this is all true, than that confrontation is seen in a whole new light.

The minor female is no longer a minor today. She is 19 now. We don’t know if the relationship is still going on.

Now, this all raises a number of questions.

Now, Delaware Politics apparently wants no comments on this, but Delaware Liberal is encouraging discussion.  They also asked a few questions:

I am adding my own opinions to their questions.  Because I blog to share those opinions.  I will not, however, be revealing the young woman’s name.

1. Is any of it true?

I remember the Urquhart campaign, I was approached several times for help, but declined.  There were many people who did not decline, for their own reasons, political advancement or belief in the candidate.  One of whom would be, I believe, the girl they are referring to in this letter (yes, she was a GIRL at the time, important distinction).  I know there were plenty of times when Vance and this girl ran around the state doing this or that, and yes, they were alone.  That, was common knowledge.

The thing is, I kind of feel like a lot of this is crap.  It’s going to be practically impossible to disprove these allegations, and people will now whisper about it for, well, most likely both of their lives.  When the campaign was going on, people were running around all over the place, and from the girl’s perspective, if Glen had won she would have been a nice start to her political career.

So, I may kick myself for saying this later, but I don’t think anything sexual occurred.  I am not rushing to anyone’s aid in this, I’m saying it because I feel I should speak.

Vance has made a lot of enemies politically recently, it was common knowledge that he spent a lot of time with a young woman, and the logical conclusion would be for his political enemies to use that to their advantage.

2. Even if true, is any of this a crime?

Yes.

3. Why now?

Delaware Liberal may have a point here… but honestly, I don’t know.

4. What now?

Sit back and wait.

Of course, the young woman that I’m thinking if was not shipped off to a religious school in another state, she was super hyped when she got accepted.  She is also in a committed relationship with someone who is definitely NOT VANCE (I’ve seen pictures, the guy is NOT Vance in a wig or anything)!

A letter sent to every member in the House is a pretty firm statement… It’d be messed up to make that allegation without proof… Do you think the Delaware State Police will go all CSI and fingerprint them? Bet someone’s prints are on at least one of those letters that shouldn’t be there…

Christine O’Donnell is donating to four 2012 GOP Presidential Candidates

Published October 24, 2011 by Sussex County Angel

I received an email while I was on the air last night from Christine PAC - informing me that she has donated to two GOP Presidential Candidates and is planning on donating to two others. Any guess who?

I contributed to Gov. Romney, Herman Cain and I plan to personally contribute to Sen. Santorum and Speaker Gingrich.

Christine makes explanations which I will share with you regarding her choices.

While running errands at my local Target Friday night I was unexpectedly contacted by ABC News asking me about my personal political contributions in the 2012 GOP Presidential Primary. This seemed to cause a bit of a stir, so I am writing to you directly to share my thoughts on the upcoming 2012 elections and our role as a movement.

I view contributing to the candidates as a sort of vote before the final vote. Imagine if during the MLB playoffs you could jump onto the field and actually play with your favorite team rather than just root from the sidelines. Well, unlike sports junkies, we political junkies have that luxury. Contributing even a small amount to candidates helps them move to the next level. Once they’ve made it to the next level, we spectators can assess how well they do under the new heightened amount of scrutiny and pressure before we commit to our final vote.

For that reason, I contributed to Gov. Romney, Herman Cain and I plan to personally contribute to Sen. Santorum and Speaker Gingrich. Let me clarify that these contributions are from me personally, not my campaign or PAC.

Why I contributed to Gov. Romney.

One of the problems with our current president is that he was too inexperienced when he was sworn in. This lack of executive leadership is the reason Pres. Obama has no problem leading from behind and serving as our Follower in Chief. As a result, our economy is a mess and it’s just getting worse. Voters are craving strong leadership. Mitt has it. He’s one of the only front runners with both successful government executive experience and successful business executive experience. This is a strong contrast to Pres. Obama.

And the very thing that Gov. Romney was criticized for in 2008, I find appealing heading into 2012. In the midst of such turmoil and uncertainty, it’s comforting that he’s strong, solid and stands as an unmovable Oak tree in the middle of a raging storm. Viscerally, voters will respond to that as the Obama Administration falls more and more into chaos.

I hope the fact that I stood up to the liberal establishment within my own party gives me the bona fides among conservatives to say the following; I find the tone and nastiness of some of the things circulating around the internet about Romney extremely offensive. His words and actions are being twisted out of context and well, maybe I am not so objective here, but I think it is below the belt to be so blatantly deceptive about a candidate’s positions. This is the other reason I contributed to Gov. Romney. I don’t think he is getting a fair shake from some within my own movement. While we may not agree with 100% of his positions, he’s been a champion against a liberal bastion and deserves our respect.

When I tweet about Gov. Romney or mention that I am leaning towards getting behind him, for the most part, people agree with me. Yet what concerns me is the intensity with which a few disagree. This intensity concerns me not only because it is misplaced, but because it could cost us the election if Romney does become our nominee.

Let me explain:

Right now a lawn gnome could beat Obama in 2012, so, yes, we can be picky, but not nasty or malicious. If we don’t stop the Republican cannibalism we’re simply turning this election over to the Democrats, who certainly don’t deserve it. We should learn a lesson from what happened in my race last year. I was consistently beating my democratic opponent in the pre-primary head to head match up… and then the Republican Establishment launched their shameless attack and changed all that. As the saying goes, a lie runs around the world while the truth is still lacing up its shoes. So when I see Romney’s record being so obviously distorted and twisted, I tend to empathize.

We as a movement need to be relentlessly picky in House and Senate Races to Ensure Strong Willed Constitutionalists Are Elected to Congress.

Additionally, those (few) who have that intense reaction against Gov. Romney need to remember that as President, he is not writing or passing legislation. He is signing or vetoing what Congress sends to him. Therefore, we as a movement need to focus our scrutiny and attention on electing a strong willed Congress. We need to ensure that more solid Constitutional Republicans are serving in both the House and the Senate. It is in these races where we must be relentlessly picky. They also need to remember that Pres. Reagan was considered moderate by many until he stepped into the Oval office and cleaned up the economic mess we were in.

I also contributed to Hermain Cain, who should be our next Sect. of Treasury or Federal Reserve Chairman.

I did also give to Cain’s campaign, yet can safely say I will not give to Cain any more. I wanted to help push him to the next level to see how he would do under this increased pressure. I like Cain personally and I think he is holding Democrats accountable for their blind allegiance to our Follower in Chief. For that reason, I want to help him stay in the race as long as possible, hence the donation. Yet I don’t know if Cain can withstand the onslaught that will inevitably come during the General Election. And I don’t like the third 9 in his 999 plan. While in my mind he’s no longer a contender, I do think he should be our next Federal Reserve Chairman or Secretary of Treasury.

As the Election Cycle Continues, I will continue contribute to other candidates.

Just before ABC reached out to me, I was going over my personal budget as I want to also send something to Sen. Santorum and Speaker Gingrich because I want to help them move to front-runner status. We need these two gentlemen in the race even more than we need Cain. Newt is a treasure trove of political wisdom and Santorum holds our party accountable to our platform and roots. (I actually put a few things back from my cart at Target and thought “I’ll use the money instead for Newt or Santorum.” No joke! They were just kitchen items, throw pillows and stuff like that. But right now I would rather have Santorum stay in the race than new throw pillows.)

I love Michelle Bachman and supported in her different ways early on. She’s enjoyed front-runner status and it’s up to her committed supporters to bring her back. If she does not win the nomination, she’d be an amazing Vice Presidential pick. If that doesn’t happen, she should certainly have a role in the next presidential administration.

Alright, that’s my time on the soapbox, so it’s someone else’s turn.

I could make many speculations regarding the attitude many Tea Party members have towards Mitt Romney, but I won’t. I could make speculations on the fact that since Herman Cain should be our “next Federal Reserve Chairman”, Christine seems to think that the Federal Reserve should continue. I could also make speculations regarding the fact that Christine seems to have endorsed four candidates with Mitt Romney holding the throne…

But let’s face it, this is not an endorsement, it’s a donation. I will add a message to Christine:

Just because you feel empathetic regarding Mitt Romney’s plight and fight with the media does not mean that there isn’t a reason he is being scrutinized.  I don’t think that it’s because he is under such scrutiny that people are feeling like Romney is more of the same, it could be because he is a toolbox…

That being said – Pat Buchanan says the following:

“It’s a real possibility because the tea party folks and the Republican conservatives and social conservatives and others are very apprehensive of Mitt Romney and they don’t feel he is really one of us,” Buchanan told Newsmax.

I will add one final point regarding Mitt Romney. Christine O’Donnell was a candidate supported by THE PEOPLE of the Tea Party. I doubt that applies to Mitt Romney -

Records of campaign contributions based on Federal Election Commission data released electronically this past weekend, reveal that Romney’s top 20 donors are made up almost exclusively of the biggest private banks on the planet.

Among Romney’s top twenty donors are Credit Suisse Group, Morgan Stanley, Barclays, Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase & Co, Wells Fargo and Citigroup Inc.”

I don’t think you should support a candidate because you are empathetic to their plight. I felt pity for Moammar Gaddafi as I watched video of him pleading for his life, that doesn’t mean that I supported the cruel dictator who had no regard for human life.

Vance Phillips & Jeff Christopher…

Last night my Talk Show had some serious tension.  For those of you who were unable to listen, the audio has been put up here.

I will be making a YouTube video of the highlights, I just haven’t gotten there yet.

So, Sussex County Council Member Vance Phillips has issues with the budget requests of Sussex County Sheriff Jeff Christopher.

As promised, I have published two different documents given to me by Vance Phillips.

Here is his opening statement from the “Great Conservative Debate”.

Here is the hand-out he provided at the “Great Conservative Debate”.

Both Vance Phillips and Jeff Christopher will be in the studio together on Monday, April 18th, during The Angel Clark Show to field listener calls on this matter as well as discuss the issue with each other.

If you have a question for either of them and would care to submit them beforehand please email them to me at Angel@WGMD.com or you could always Tweet me!

Vance Phillips responds to Jeff Christopher:

Published March 3, 2011 by Sussex County Angel

The following letter was sent by Vance Phillips as a statement in response to the email from the Sussex County Sheriff Jeff Christopher.

Dear Patriots,

My name is Vance Phillips and I have served on the Sussex County Council for more than a decade.  I am a sixth-generation Sussex Countian whose ancestors helped build a strong county, strong state, and a strong America.

My roots in County government were established when overzealous politicians sought to establish unconstitutional laws that would have invaded our privacy and created extreme regulations on our homes through Owner Occupied Housing Codes.  I stood shoulder to shoulder with freedom-loving citizens on the steps of the Sussex County Courthouse in 1997 to denounce government intrusiveness and I have been fighting the battle ever since.

Recently, the newly elected Sussex County Sheriff, Jeffrey Christopher, wrote in your newsletter inflammatory rhetoric which ignored certain basic facts, a fundamental requirement for any civil discourse.  I wanted to take a moment to offer some perspective in hopes of setting the record straight so a healthy and productive discussion about our County and the role of our sheriff can occur.

Sheriff Christopher claims the County Council has “blocked all efforts I have made to improve the office”. This is simply not true. Sheriff Christopher fails to mention he has yet to make a public presentation or request to the County Council for these supposed improvements. This is understandable, since the sheriff only took office eight weeks ago.

The Sheriff goes on to claim the County Council has “stooped so low as to draft and attempt to introduce a bill to diminish and or abolish your Sheriff and your right to vote for your Sheriff.” I cannot speak for the General Assembly or efforts on the part of others, but no such bill has been brought to the County Council for consideration since the new Sheriff has taken office.  To the contrary, I and the County Council fought passionately for our local elected officials when Governor Markell proposed transferring authority of some row offices to the State.   Mr. Christopher’s accusation appears to be without merit, and in the absence of facts, is reckless and unbecoming of a public servant, in my opinion.

On another note, Sheriff Christopher claims that the Delaware State Police support him. But the County Council has not received any indication of DSP support of the sheriff’s yet-to-be defined agenda.

I have had several conversations with the new Sussex County sheriff and made clear to him that I respect his authority as an elected official of the people and want him to succeed in executing the platform on which he was elected.  But I also have reminded the sheriff that the Sussex County Council is responsible for the prudent expenditure of taxpayer dollars and our deliberative body must give thoughtful consideration to each row officer’s budget.

Sheriff Christopher has yet to submit his very first budget, so his claims of denial by the County Council are, to say the least, exaggerated. In a manner of speaking, we’re putting the cart before the horse.

I personally suggested that the Sheriff appear publicly before the County Council and scheduled him for the March 15th meeting.  I, too, would like to extend the invitation for you to join us as we begin the public discussion on the role of the County Sheriff’s office.

Patriots are first and foremost thoughtful and responsible, so I trust you will weigh all the evidence in these discussions. I welcome your valuable insights.

There is a reason why Sussex County Council is the only government at the State or County level that has not had to raise taxes. [In fact, the County plans to cut its capitation tax this year.]  There is a reason why Sussex County has actually reduced the size of its government in the last two years to meet the financial crisis our society faces and has no general fund debt.  There is a reason why Sussex County has the lowest unemployment rates and highest quality of life in the state of Delaware.

It is because our government is respectful of the Constitution, adheres to conservative principles and is mindful of the needs of its citizens. Our philosophy promotes personal responsibility, free enterprise and a fear of God.

I look forward to seeing you on March 15. If you are unable to attend, please join us on the Internet at www.sussexcountyde.gov.

An appeal from the Sussex County Sheriff Jeff Christopher:

Published March 2, 2011 by Sussex County Angel

Jeff Christopher, your newly elected Sussex County Sheriff sends this appeal:

Mar 15,  10am – Sussex County Council meeting.

Greetings fellow patriots! My name is Jeff Christopher and I am your Sussex County Sheriff. Many of you have heard me at the 9-12 Delaware Patriot meetings in Millsboro. You elected me because I am a Constitutional and Conservative Sheriff who believes that the power of the office comes from you the people.

Recently after taking office I was challenged by County Council members as to my authority and despite my running to improve and make the office more proactive and provide more services, County Council members deny that I ran on this basis and have blocked all efforts I have made to improve the office. They remain convinced that your elected Sheriff has no Constitutional Authority and despite state law listing the Sheriff as a Law Enforcement Agency, we have no support from County Council.

You support us, The Delaware State Police support us, but the members of County Council do not and in fact have recently stooped so low as to draft and attempt to introduce a bill to diminish and or abolish your Sheriff and your right to vote for your Sheriff. They want to make it an appointed position.

I need your help. On March 15th at 10 am I am scheduled to present my case before County Council at the regular CC meeting at Council Chambers on the circle. I need you to come and show your support for me and ask why CC would draft such a bill to take away the rights of people who spoke loud and clear last November. They are making a mockery of the patriots of this county.

I want to strengthen and preserve this office for the people and will fight to the end!!

Thank You and God Bless

Hope to see you there!!

Sincerely,

Your Sussex County Sheriff

Jeff Christopher

Delaware Senate debate: Coons vs. O’Donnell: An insider opinion

Published October 14, 2010 by Sussex County Angel

There is plenty of buzz in the news, on Facebook, and on Twitter about the debate last night between Christine O’Donnell and Chris Coons.  In Delaware, emails and tweets are flying about opinions while Christine’s supporters debate Chris’s supporters over who did better last night.  This Delawarean wants to ask one simple question.  Why?

At this point most who are planning to vote are well aware of whom they will be voting for due to fundamental issues and belief structures.  Either you are comfortable voting for someone who “dabbled” in Marxism, or you are comfortable voting for someone who “dabbled” in witchcraft (or you are voting third party, in which case you wouldn’t have gone to the debate).  The issues which are most important to people are obvious, and those who are politically aware know what they are.  Not only that but they know exactly which side the candidates are on.

So, who’s going to say what? Who’s already whispering what? That much is quite clear.  Regardless of the highlights of the debate, that is not what’s important.  Everyone watching that debate already knew who they were voting for and now everyone speaking has the same opinions they had yesterday, they simply speak with more conviction.

Chris Coons supporters still claim that Christine O’Donnell is a witch and a zealot.  His supporters will continue to mock Christine for her personal beliefs on masturbation in the 90′s.  His supporters will claim that Christine proved during the debate that she is incompetent and unfit to be a Senator.  Chris Coons supporters will state that no matter what was said or wasn’t said during the debate that Chris did well, and they will state proudly and boldly that it is an easy choice, vote for Chris Coons, not because of what he said during the debate, but because he’s a better choice than Christine O’Donnell.

Christine O’Donnell supporters still claim that Chris Coons is a Marxist in desperate need of a razor.  Her supporters will continue to say that regardless her beliefs in the past, the things Christine did in the 90′s (or refused to do) were much better than a large majority of the population.  Her supporters will continue to point out that the mainstream media despises Christine regardless of what she says or does.  Christine O’Donnell supporters will state that no matter what was said or wasn’t said during the debate, Christine did well, and they will state proudly and boldly that it is an easy choice.  Vote for Christine O’Donnell or support the big government, socialist agenda (or the big government, Marxist agenda).

For those of you who are curious, did I watch the debate? No.  Did I see clips of the debate? No.  Will I watch the debate? No.  I already know who I will be voting for (and I believe you do as well).

Me on CNN? Who would have thought…

Published January 12, 2010 by Sussex County Angel

So I had an interesting experience this week.  I was contacted by CNN for an interview because of the protest I organized this summer regarding the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk being rebuilt with stimulus money.  To be more precise with a final amount of 5.5 million dollars of federal stimulus money.  It seems CNN had been studying the different stimulus programs throughout the country and the Rehoboth project is listed as one of the most wasteful in the country.

My initial response was one of, well, worry.  Knowing the backing most of the mainstream media has given to anything the current presidential administration has done I assumed I would be on the defensive during the whole interview, justifying my opinion and what I consider to be the opinion of a majority of my fellow “tea party patriots”.  I was not given very much notice so spent the weekend brushing up on my facts regarding the various aspects of Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk Phase II and Phase III.  (many thanks to my friends who helped me by sending me information, I learned some new facts from you guys which surprised CNN).

When I arrived at the interview site, which was directly in front of the construction crew working on the boardwalk, I was enthusiastically greeted by Sara and Christine, as well as the Dolphins fan camera man.  As an Eagles fan I was so distracted by his hat I lost his name somewhere in the recesses of my mind, as horrible as that is to admit.  They were completely surprised by my age as well as being a Democrat and spent a long time discussing with my why I became politically active.

Prepared for anger, I was on my guard.  Imagine my surprise when I found out that the group had just come from the infamous West Rehoboth (which “only” received $130,000 in stimulus money) and considered the Boardwalk project to be a waste.  The way the questions were worded, I felt that they actually agreed with me.

I do understand that these people are professionals and most likely wanted me to feel disarmed, but if that’s the case they did their job well.  When I finished the interview I felt good, and slightly confident.  I am hoping that when I view the airing of the segment I will have represented the 9/12 Delaware Patriots well, as well as other groups which are against massive amounts of government spending.  The editing of the interview may make me look foolish, but I can honestly say I did my best, was well prepared, and tried to ensure CNN was aware of the fact that not all of the state of Delaware is complacent.

So all in all I think, or should I say hope, I did well.  I am looking forward to the airing of my segment, which will be most likely on Thursday, January 21st.  I am still unsure of the exact time and will make sure everyone knows when I know.  I hope, when you watch it, you feel I represented you well.

Misplaced Anger

Published November 8, 2009 by Sussex County Angel

I was so upset last night when the news came out.  I focused on what we had done wrong to let our representatives think this was ok.

I was unable to go to the protests this week and had some internet issues, but throughout this whole ordeal, I have been callingpeople, e-mailing people, writing letters, holding signs, sending pinkslips, and anything else I could think of.  Last night, after it was announced that this health care bill had passed, I will admit it, at first I was in shock, and then I lashed out in anger towards anyone who could possibly hate us enough to do this.  Man, did I send the AARP a scathing letter (of course, as I am only 25, it’ll be a LONG time before I’m anywhere near old enough to use that).  But I digress.

After some contemplation time, THIS is what I realized.

Why would these people rush to pass this bill, one that eliminates a majority of abortion care.  What was it that was said, why take one step forward if you have to take 2 steps back?  Of course, thats vague wording for a quote I barely know, but it seems to me that some common sense is severly lacking here.  Then I figured it out.

THEY ARE SCARED.

What are you talking about?  They are scared?  Have you seen the majority we have?  That’s crazy talk…

Well, I don’t think it is.  After the election on Tuesday, I think that it was realized that we have awakened.  I think the American people let themselves be heard in a way that scares the Congress most.  Informed people voted and this simple concept flooded the minds of the people up for re-election. (In my opinion) They realized they had better get whatever they want done now, as fast as possible, whether it’s shoved down our throats or not, because they know they will not get the chance to again.

So despite my original feelings of failure on this, I really feel this was a bad move on their parts.  The average Democrat, having had to give grounds on abortion, will not be pleased.  The average Republican, having had to give grounds about the public option, will not be pleased.  The average Libertarian, having had to give the goverrnment even more control, will not be pleased.

Smile now, oh yea light of heart.  2010 is coming.  And to those of us who have worked hard and are excited about 2010, I say, keep up the good work.  They will soon be out for the count, and it will be up to us to vote in people who know how to READ the bills presented before them, no matter how large they are.

Organizing For America & 9/12 meeting location changed

Published October 20, 2009 by Sussex County Angel

Well, tonight, I joined in on an Organizing For America conference call (previously Obama For America)… I will be discussing this call at the next 9/12 meeting which is Thursday night (Ocober 22) at 7pm.  It was scheduled to be at the Georgetown Cheer Center, but I have just found out that was double booked.  The new location will be announced as soon as I know.

I want everyone to come to this meeting so they can hear about this crazy conference call pushing the presidents agenda.

More to come soon
