International Students For Liberty Conference – 2013 – I am here, the party has started

Published February 16, 2013 by Sussex County Angel

OK, the party actually started yesterday, if you don’t count the pre-game, and I’m sure there was plenty of pre-gaming. I got here (the International Students for Liberty Conference in DC) yesterday and did a liver broadcast of The Angel Clark Show – available here if you missed it. The show included the Liberty Train, with Corey Moore, Mike RinoRemover, and Shaun Rieley. We also had some guests associated with Students for Liberty. Zachary Slayback, from the University of Pennsylvania joined us, Keara Vickers, a graduate of the Ohio University joined us, Nick Roskams, from the University of Leuven in Belgium joined us (his shoes were AMAZING by the way), and Susette Espana, a graduate of the University of Francisco Marroquin in Guatemala joined us. I have to add that Susette’s university sounded awesome. It’s a libertarian college – wow.   I’ll be honest, I crashed early, exhaustion. I hate waking up in the mornings, and boy did I ever have to in order to get here on time.  Students for Liberty asked everyone to be… dressed to impress, and boy did people listen. Right now I am sitting in the “media lounge” and am the one person wearing jeans in a sea of suits. It’s cool, I’m used to it.

Anyway, this morning I headed to Cato for lunch and to see David Boaz.  He gave a fantastic speech. They had a nice little spread of food, and the company, as it seems is traditional here, was all very well dressed.

CATO

I stole this picture from the Cato’s Twitter account. You can’t see me, I’m hidden in the back, as usual.

I’ll be honest, it was my first time hearing David speak, and he was great. I was pleased to see Cato getting involved with SFL. Why, well, obviously, we want to get the concept of Liberty and Freedom instilled in youth, instead of the concept of a nanny government. Boaz, I should add, opened his speech with a Hayek joke. You know you’re in the right place when you hear economics jokes.

I should add, I saw this amazing cover on the way to Cato.

Anyway, a few random pictures taken by Mike as he was wandering around – look for more later

In other words, I missed the Stossel taping, oh well, there’s always another one later.

I just got banned from Facebook for thirty days for this little picture.

Steven Ettinger was arrested at the Asbury Boardwalk Civil Disobedience Swimsuit Party

Published July 17, 2012 by Sussex County Angel

So on Saturday I headed up to the Asbury Park Civil Disobedience Swimsuit Party, which ended up being a celebration as the 1958 ordinance was repealed a few days prior to the event.  It seems that the City Council may not have wanted the press that comes with a scantily clad protest.

The ordinance said: “No person clad in bathing attire shall be on the boardwalk or the public walks adjacent thereto.”

Since that changed, most of us expected no one would be arrested.  It seemed we were wrong.

Dave Cahill was an awesome performer.  I spoke along with Eddie Free, Danny Panzella, Garrett Fox, Chris Cantwell, and Adam Kokesh.  During Adam’s speech, he asked Steve Ettinger to show everyone his “Borat style thong”.

After Steve showed his thong, he was arrested for indecent exposure.

You can watch the ustream of the entire event here.

Here’s a video of just the arrest.

“Borat” Arrested for Swimsuit Malfunction in Asbury Park NJ

After the arrest, the people gathering were told that they were no longer allowed to use amplified sound or sing, so Dave Cahill started singing and playing his guitar to call their bluff – that was pretty awesome to watch, especially after he put on his alien mask.

Steven Ettinger has a hearing to decided whether charges will be pressed. The hearing is July 27th, 2012, at 10 am at the Asbury Park Court.  Steve has created a chipin asking for donations as he has a 9 hour trip (round trip) to get to the court.  He may need even more if he is charged as he may be looking at a $1,000 fine.

FIND THE CHIPIN HERE!

For those who couldn’t attend the event, instead of buying Steve a drink, donate a round to his chipin! I am!

What a day! (but at least I started my elections guide)

Published July 13, 2012 by Sussex County Angel

Oh my! During tonight’s show my headphones went out, my internet went out, and my computer crashed… The only thing that could have gone wrong that didn’t was that my chair didn’t break… Also frustrating was that I lost all the work I had done on my elections guide (about 3 hours).

So I started my official 2012 elections guide over again.  It took ages tonight, but I got the main guidelines ready!

http://www.examiner.com/article/delaware-2012-elections-information

Most likely by the end of next week every race in the state will have its own page and be linked back to this main page in some way, shape, or form. Then I can start publishing the press releases!

It would be done this weekend but I’m headed to New Jersey to speak at the Asbury Boardwalk Civil Disobedience Swimsuit Party!

Now I have to sleep. I’ve been staring at this screen for so long tonight my contacts hurt.

Are you running for office in Delaware?

Published July 11, 2012 by Sussex County Angel

I just sent out the following email to everyone who gave the correct email address in Sussex County (except for one politician who I shall not publish anything from his office)… If you didn’t get one, and you filed in Sussex, chances are you filed with the wrong email address.  Feel free to reach out! Also, I’m working on getting the filing list for New Castle County and Kent, but if you’re in the state and running, let me know!

Hi!  My name is Angel Clark.  I am a writer, blogger, and talk radio host.  I would like to congratulate you on filing to be a candidate in Delaware!

Running for office can be a scary thing (even if you’re already elected), and sometimes it is difficult to know who will publish your information in an unbiased way.  That’s why I’m emailing you.  You gave your email address when you filed and I am taking advantage of that!

Regardless of which party you belong to, I believe that voters should be informed.  If you send me press releases, I will publish them, objective and unbiased.  I will not add my opinions to your press releases, and I will give you the chance to get the word out!

Thanks (and best of luck to you)!

Angel

This email has been sent to you and your opponent(s).

If you’re running in Sussex County, and you had the correct email address on the filing form, and you didn’t get an email from me, there’s a reason (you know who you are).  You are an ass.

PorcFest is a Free State of Mind – or An Ode to Alternative Currencies

Published July 3, 2012 by Sussex County Angel

This is one of the most difficult posts I’ve ever had to write.  Not because it’s emotional, but because I hate to think about the fact that I am no longer on vacation.  I know that sounds like such a first-world problem, but to be fair, my vacation was PorcFest 2012.

Despite the name, PorcFest 2012 was not about bacon (although there were hundreds of pounds of bacon consumed at the event).  The Porcupine Freedom Festival is a weeklong event organized by the Free State Project.  PorcFest 2012 was packed with liberty lessons, speakers, and consenting capitalist acts.

I see no reason to go into detail about the schedule of PorcFest; you may read about the events here.  I will be focusing on one of my favorite aspects of the week, the alternative currencies!

I just happened to be camping right next to the activists of Freedom’s Phoenix and Don’t Tread on Meme, which means I was next to the Moneylith!  The Moneylith is a vending machine filled with alternative currencies.  You give the machine your Federal Reserve Notes (FRN) and decide whether you want silver, gold, or Bitcoins.  Naturally, one of my first stops at PorcFest 2012 was to purchase my favorite Silver Dime Card as a souvenir (yes, that’s right, I wanted to hoard at least one).  Armed with my “Enemy of the State” card, I was ready to enjoy the PorcFest economy.

I have stated in the past that I am like a child when it comes to making purchases with alternative currencies.  I don’t care what I’m buying; it makes me happy to use gold, silver, copper, and even Bitcoins to do so.  I feel like there is an inherent lack of coercion in the transaction and it’s a feeling one does not often get to enjoy in the “United States”.

I exchanged coffee for silver, copper, and Bitcoins.  The coffee that I exchanged was not from the “United States” and had not been examined by the FDA.  No government representatives had declared my coffee maker and teapots “sanitary”.  Amazingly, no one died from consuming a beverage that had not been deemed “safe for consumption” and “sanitary” by the government.  This may have been a fluke.

During my time at PorcFest 2012, I exchanged silver for chicken fingers (which I highly doubt were the actual fingers of chickens), burgers, hot dogs (which I don’t think contained actual dog), gyro, French fries and French toast (which may not have originated in France), and even orange juice.  Oh, and of course, there was bacon.  Not once did I get sick, although I did get one heck of a hangover…  Again, this may have been a fluke.  It is doubtful one person could consume that much food over a prolonged period of time that had not been checked by the government and remain healthy.

I had two favorite exchanges at PorcFest 2012.  The first was a Bitcoin exchange.  It was truly a first for me.  I had already had one Bitcoin transfer to my website, but now it was raining and laptops were difficult to move.  I was ready to do something I never expected.  I gave a stranger my phone number.  About a minute later, I had a text message.  I was sent Bitcoins through a text message!

The text message, to be more exact, was a link.  I clicked the link and was sent to a temporary Bitcoin wallet, through Coinapult.com, which I could use to send the funds to my own wallet.  Apparently, Coinapult also lets you send coins with just an email address as well.  Bitcoins through a text message, my mind is still wrapping around the possibilities!  I also now have in my possession a physical Bitcoin (but that’s a tale for another day)!

Another exchange was with a friend of mine who also listens to my show.  He asked for a coffee and stated that he wanted to make an exchange entirely with alternative currencies.  He gave us a Silver Circle Movie round and was given a coffee and some copper rounds.  The look on his face reminded me of how great it is to engage in voluntary interactions.

Exchanges made with Federal Reserve Notes are inherently coercive.  The Federal Reserve prints it out and deflates the value of the currency currently held by others.  This very act should be considered theft.

To engage in voluntary interactions that are consenting, well, that’s a big part of why this piece was so difficult to write.  I have to accept that I am no longer at PorcFest.  It’s back to the state, the FRN’s, and the life I knew before.  I have come to realize though, that while I am deep in government interference, in my mind I can head back to PorcFest.  PorcFest is a Free State of mind…

Anti-gay teen talk radio host Caiden Cowger has his podcast taken away

Published June 8, 2012 by Sussex County Angel

A West Virginia teen radio host who recently made headlines proclaimed that President Obama “is making kids gay“.  Fourteen-year-old Caiden Cowger recently made his anti-gay statements public on YouTube as well as on Spreaker web-based radio.   Not only did Cowger state that “homosexuality is a belief”, but he also proclaimed he was sickened by those around him who differed in sexual orientation.  On Thursday, YouTube removed Cowger’s videos, calling it hate speech.  On Friday, Spreaker also removed Cowger’s statements for “offensive content”.

Cowger admitted that he used to be friends with people who have since admitted they were gay.  “They were not homosexuals [then]…they just decided all of a sudden, ‘I think I’m going to be gay,’” before he eventually concludes, “I’m going to tell you this, guys: President Obama…Vice President Biden…is making kids gay!”

Cowger identified Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck as his influences on his Facebook page.  Many on the right are professing anger that private companies took down Cowger’s rants.  Some claim this violates his right to free speech.  However, private companies, especially companies that ask the user to sign “terms of service“, maintain the right to delete content.

Cowger has yet to respond to this writer’s questions.
