The UC – San Diego event with 5,600-plus people was the third of three such events the 12-term Congressman from Texas held in the Golden State this week.  On Wednesday Ron Paul drew a remarkable 4,000-plus crowd to Cal State – Fullerton, and last night Dr. Paul drew 5,000-plus people to UC – Davis.

Ron Paul draws 5,000 supporters to second campaign event in California this week (with pictures)

Published May 4, 2012 by Sussex County Angel

On Thursday, thousands in California gathered to see Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul speak.  The 12-term congressman from Texas had announced a few days prior that his campaign team would be returning to California for private fundraisers, media interviews, and town hall events.  Dr. Paul’s previous campaign events in California included a record-breaking event in which over 8,500 supporters gathered to see the presidential candidate speak.

Katherine Jarvis was at the event and covered Ron Paul’s speech via Twitter.  Ron Paul first stated he was an avid bicycler and was pleased to see so many bicycles around the campus.  After the crowd laughed, Paul discussed his plan to repeal the Patriot Act and bring back privacy to the people.  Paul stated there should never be a time when free people sacrifice liberty for safety (referencing the TSA).  Ron Paul finished his speech discussing his Plan to Restore America.

2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul drew another sizable crowd of supporters and undecided voters at the second of three campaign events he is holding in California this week, this time drawing 5,000-plus people to a town hall meeting held at the University of California – Davis.

Ron Paul’s town hall meeting at the University of California – Davis, took place tonight at 7:00 p.m. PST on the school’s West Memorial Union Quadrangle, Davis, CA 95616.  The 12-term Congressman from Texas discussed his platform of constitutionally-limited government, the restoration of our economic and civil liberties, and elements of his path-breaking ‘Plan to Restore America.’

On Thursday, Michele Bachmann endorsed Romney.  Gingrich is expected to endorse Mitt Romney in a few weeks despite his previous reputation as a “Tea Party candidate” and Romney being considered the “establishment candidate“.  However, many Republican voters claim to be less than enthusiastic about supporting Mitt Romney and are looking for an alternative.  Despite Governor Mitt Romney being the perceived “front runner” in the Republican race for their presidential candidate, Congressman Ron Paul maintains he will remain in the race.  His strategy has most recently won delegates in Iowa, Alaska, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Minnesota, and Pennsylvania.  The Huffington Post reported Thursday that Ron Paul will be on the ballot at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, meaning that Paul has won at least five states.

Ron Paul has at least one Tea Party Express rally scheduled for Sunday, May 6.  This rally will feature Ron Paul, his son and Senator Rand Paul, Tea Party Express chair Amy Kremer, and Texas Republican candidate for U. S. Senate, Ted Cruz.

Only Mitt Romney and Ron Paul remain in the Republican race for the presidential nomination.

Ron Paul attracts 4,000-plus voters to Fullerton, California town hall meeting (with pics)

2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul continued his pattern of attracting thousands of attendees to his town hall meetings, this time drawing 4,000-plus voters to his California State University at Fullerton campus event.
Tonight’s CSUF town hall meeting took place at 7:00 p.m. PST at the school’s Titan Stadium, located on W. Campus Drive, Fullerton, CA 92831.  Dr. Paul spoke to the CSUF and general community about the need for constitutionally-limited government, the bonds that tie economic and civil liberties, and elements of his ‘Plan to Restore America,’ an economic blueprint that cuts Washington spending, reduces the national debt, and curtails the rapid growth of the federal government.

The Fullerton event was the first in a days-long series of campaign events to be held in California.  Ron Paul will hold another large on-campus town hall meeting tomorrow at the University of California at Davis and on Friday, he will hold another at the University of California at San Diego.  Details of Dr. Paul’s ongoing campaign swing in the Golden State, including information on how to RSVP, can be found here.

On Wednesday, Newt Gingrich suspended his campaign to be the Republican presidential nominee, leaving just Mitt Romney and Ron Paul in the race.  Gingrich is expected to endorse Mitt Romney in a few weeks despite Romney being considered the “establishment candidate“.

YouTube banned Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul 2008 campaign channel

Published May 1, 2012 by Sussex County Angel

One of 2012 Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul’s most effective avenues to reach his millions of supporters has been through the internet and social media.  On Monday, one of those avenues was shut down.  YouTube has banned one of Ron Paul’s most used YouTube channels.

If you try to go to Ron Paul’s 2008 campaign channel, you will instead receive a message that states, “RonPaul2008dotcomhas been terminated because we received multiple third-party claims of copyright infringement regarding material the user posted.”

This Ron Paul channel contained thousands of collected videos and speeches of Ron Paul’s appearances throughout the years.

This YouTube channel is not run directly by Ron Paul 2012, but was had been the official 2008 presidential campaign channel.  It was later taken over by a fan that aggregated thousands of videos from appearance around the country on this page.

Hundreds of thousands of subscribers and millions of views later, many Ron Paul supporters claim this is another exampleof Ron Paul being censored.

One post on DailyPaul.com is titled: The Largest Ron Paul Channel on YouTube…Removed?! It goes on to say, “RonPaul2008dotcom Has always been my source for watching video’s from current to years back. Having thousands of videos, millions of views, and hundred’s of thousands of subscribers.. Youtube has decided to shut the account down……. To all those who added videos, to it.. Thank you… But, Youtube, must be trying to censor ron paul even more…… IM SO P***ED THOUSANDS OF VIDEOS GONE!!!!”

The Ron Paul campaign has yet to address this action by YouTube, instead focusing on the recent resignation of Texas EPA regional chief, Al Armendariz.

Ron Paul vows to end the EPA’s harassment after EPA official resigns

Published May 1, 2012 by Sussex County Angel

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regional chief, Al Armendariz, resigned, effective Monday, after a controversial 2010 video surfaced last week.  The video included Armendariz pledging to “crucify” gas and oil companies that break the law. Armendariz was the Region VI Administrator for the EPA and Texas was included in the five-state energy-rich region Armendariz oversaw.  Texas Congressman and Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul came forward to discuss Armendariz’s resignation on Tuesday.

“Last week, I joined my GOP colleagues in the Texas delegation in calling for Mr. Armendariz’s removal. So I am pleased with his resignation.  However, I do not expect Mr. Armendariz’s resignation to change anything at the EPA,” said Congressman Ron Paul.  “Actions speak louder than words, and the EPA’s actions toward small businesses, farmers, and local communities in Texas clearly show that Mr. Armendariz’s desire to figuratively crucify Americans with excessive regulations is an agency-wide sentiment.”

Many Republicans wish to investigate much Armendariz accomplished while in office at the EPA.  Several businesses claim they were slighted by Armendariz’s office with “trumped-up charges and negative comments in the media“.  Many of these charges were later withdrawn, unfortunately too late for the damaged reputations of many businesses.

One example is the EPA’s 2010 emergency stop-drilling order in Parker County, Texas against the natural-gas drilling company, Range Resources.  The EPA claimed that residents complained of contaminated water.  The EPA dropped all claims last month.

“For example, Matagorda County, in my congressional district, is currently battling the EPA over its claim that the county is an ‘Ozone Nonattainment Region,’ even though emissions from the county have declined in recent years!  This is just one of many examples of how the EPA has abused its authority by imposing onerous, job-destroying regulations on Texas’ communities, businesses, and individuals,” said Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul.  “Obviously, the EPA’s harassment of Texans will continue if President Obama is reelected.  However, there is little in the record, as opposed to the rhetoric, of Governor Mitt Romney to suggest that he will act aggressively to rein in the administrative state.”

Armendariz apologized last week, however, calls for his resignation did not cease.  Armendariz claims he regrets his comments and doesn’t wish to be a distraction to the agency.  His full resignation letter may be viewed at Dallas News.

Ron Paul delegates may have found a way to even the odds with abstention

Published April 30, 2012 by Sussex County Angel

The 2012 Republican nomination for president is now down to two candidates, Ron Paul and Mitt Romney.  Newt Gingrich is expected to suspend his campaign on Tuesday, leaving his campaign over 4 million dollars in debt.  The Republican National Committee endorsed Mitt Romney last week, on the very day that the Gingrich campaign started to discuss exiting the race.

Ron Paul supporters will not let this news get them down.  In fact, supporters of the 12-term Congressman from Texashave continued to grasp delegate positions in states where, despite the caucus winners, delegates are unbound.  There are thirty states where delegates are able to vote for whomever they chose, regardless of primary and caucus results.

The dirty little secret is: At the end of the day, these guys and gals can vote any way they want,” said a Republican who has attended national conventions for decades. “Each state has different (laws) on pledged delegates.”

Ron Paul supporters claim to be dedicated to a movement, not a candidate, and have announced they will support “no one but Paul“.  They have currently been discussing whetherbound delegates may legally abstain from voting in the first round of voting at the Republican convention.

The act of abstention is when a participant in a vote is present for the roll call before the vote, but then purposefully casts either a blank vote or marking the ballot incorrectly.  In many cases, the abstention of voting may be considered an act of protest.  In fact, during the Republican National Convention in 2008, 14 delegates did not vote.  These delegates were present during the roll call, but would not vote for any of the candidates at the time.  Ron Paul supporters claim this would improve the ratio of votes in Ron Paul’s favor.  An example of this is explained with no one abstaining (and a tiny voting pool) Mitt Romney would get ten votes while Ron Paul would get five votes.  Mitt Romney would win, having obtained the 50% +1 needed to grasp the nomination.  With delegates abstaining, this could change drastically.  Mitt Romney could get five votes, Ron Paul would maintain his five votes, and five voters would abstain.  As long as all the abstentions had participated in the roll call, no one would win the 50% +1 votes needed to become the nominee and on to the next round and a brokered convention.

This was a considered option for Hilary Clinton supporters in the 2008 election and was widely discussed.  The question remains will delegates be kicked out of the convention if they abstain from voting.

RNC for Life discusses, state by state, how many delegates are bound and how many are unbound after the primaries, but it has no mention of the Republican state laws regarding abstaining from voting.  There are fines of up to $1,000 for “faithless electors” who do not vote as bound, and many are considering this to apply to the Republican National Convention.  These are not applicable.  An elector is not a delegate.  An elector is a member of the Electoral College, voting in the final election.

Many in the Republican Party are “outraged” at this suggestion by Ron Paul supporters.  They dislike the concept of these “Ron Paul Republicans” breaking the party’s rules to support their candidate.  However, Ronald Reagan’s campaign considered the exact same option in 1976.  Check out this 1976 headline: “Reagan Forces May ‘Steal’ Ford Votes”.

“In secret strategy sessions, Reagan aides have toyed with the idea of asking delegates to abstain as long as their state laws require them to honor the primary verdicts.  This would prevent the President from riding up an early-ballot victory.  Then, in subsequent ballots, they could legally switch to Reagan.”

In fact, Rick Santorum, before suspending his own campaign, had hinted at the fact that he may ask delegates to abstainfrom voting for Mitt Romney.  Gingrich seemed to imply the same thing.  Ron Paul supporters and looking into this without any urging from the Ron Paul campaign.

It seems that each delegate must analyze the Republican Party rules in their own state to see if this form of protest voting would cause the delegate to be kicked out of the convention.  At least 14 delegates did this in 2008.  It seems the Republican race is not over yet.

Yahoo News doesn’t consider Ron Paul a major candidate

Published April 28, 2012 by Sussex County Angel

Yahoo News shared an article Wednesday discussing a record they claim Mitt Romney won.  The record is that on Tuesday, when Mitt Romney won Delaware with 56% and Pennsylvania with 58% of the vote, Romney failed to gather more than 60% of the vote.

According to University of Minnesota political scientist Eric Ostermeier, that marks the first time that a presumptive GOP nominee has failed to reach the 60 percent mark in a contest conducted after his last major challenger exited the race.”

Ron Paul is still in the race, and is a major candidate, whether Yahoo admits it or not.

Ron Paul attracts 3,000-plus voters to town hall meeting in Houston with pics

On Friday, thousands in Texas gathered to see Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul speak.  The Hofheinz Pavilion at the University of Houston slowly filled as supporters prepared to see Ron Paul.  The 12-term congressman from Texas had announced a few days prior that his campaign team would be focusing in Texas, his home state, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  Dr. Paul’s campaign events consistently pack the houseflood the streets, and fill stadiums.

2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul attracted an impressive 3,000-plus supporters and undecided voters tonight at his University of Houston town hall meeting.

Ron Paul’s University of Houston town hall meeting was held at 7:00 p.m. CT at the university’s Hofheinz Pavilion, located at 3466 Cullen Boulevard in Houston, TX 77204.  At the event, Dr. Paul discussed his platform of constitutionally-limited government, the restoration of economic and civil liberties, and provisions of his path-breaking ‘Plan to Restore America.’

This concludes the second series of large on-campus town hall meetings with Ron Paul, also held at the University of Texas at El Paso, drawing 1,200 and the University of Texas at Austin, with a crowd of 6,000.

Tuesday’s primaries in five states caused sources close to the Gingrich campaign to inform the media that Gingrich will be dropping out of the Republican race for the nomination next Tuesday.  This means the Republican Party will have two choices for the nomination for president, Ron Paul and Mitt Romney.

The Congressman, one of Time Magazine’s “100 Most Influential People“, has declared he is not dropping out and is in it to win it.  The crowds drawn to his events seem to emphasize this.  This was the last large, on-campus scheduled event in Texas this week.

CNBC’s Squawk Box with Ron Paul ‘he already changed the debate, he wants to win’

Published April 23, 2012 by Sussex County Angel

Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ron Paul was on CNBC’s Squawk Box on Monday Morning.  Within two minutes of his segment, a host asked the 12-term Congressman from Texas “From a practical perspective, the polls would suggest the chances of winning are very, very low, if not impossible.  Is this not about winning so much as it is about changing the debate.”

This writer believes that Dr. Ron Paul has already changed the debate.  In fact, there’s plenty of proof that he’s already changed the questions asked in the Republican debates to date.  You may watch the videos of each debate here.

Do you remember a candidate named Herman Cain?  He suspended his campaign after allegations came out regarding his personal life, but he went on to endorse Newt Gingrich and then take that endorsement back.  Herman Cain kept avoiding answering questions about the Federal Reserve.  When he did answer, he accused people of lying.  However, unlike in 2008, the question was asked.

Almost every Republican debate for the candidacy in 2012 has included questions about the Federal Reserve.  In September, the candidates were asked “Should the Federal Reserve be audited” and “How much of my paycheck should I be allowed to keep” (a taxes question) in the same debate.

Despite many members of the media leaving Dr. Paul out of the polls, databases, and articles, and others just plain lying about Dr. Paul, Dr. Paul has been named one of Time Magazine’s “100 Most Influential People”.

His campaign events are sold out stadiums of thousands and filled with enthusiastic supporters.  This writer has sat and recorded crowds chanting “End the FED” and “President Paul” for an hour before the candidate was scheduled to speak.  Veterans march in the street for him in the rain, the cadence call sounding out “Ron Paul revolution: bring us back our Constitution” loud and clear.

Congressman Ron Paul is well known on college campuses.  One of the most effective ways to change the debate is to teach the next generation the truth.  Congressman Paul has done that.  Almost any campus that you visit will have people talking about liberty, freedom, and economics, and agreeing with Congressman Paul.

If this race were just about “changing the debate”, Ron Paul would be sitting back at home, relaxing, instead of booking more and more stadiums to fill with his supporters.  If this race were about “changing the debate”, Ron Paul would have already won.
