7/30 debates (EVERYONE stayed!)

Published July 31, 2009 by Sussex County Angel

I would like to keep this relatively short and sweet.

My first statement, obviously, is the fact that Mervine actually came and stayed for the whole debate.  However, listening to her speak, I realized, was exactly like webpage.  There was not a single relevent fact that popped out of her pretty little head.  She actually said she could get more accomplished because she’d be a member of the majority.  I’M NOT HAPPY WITH THE MAJORITY.  THAT IS NOTHING TO BE PROUD OF.

Wendy Jones even told her at one point that she didn’t answer a question.  I loved that.

Joe Booth said, at one point, he helped Del Pointe people plan their race track… COME ON PEOPLE.  How many chances has he had to prove to us he can do it right?  How many more does he need?  Does he think that if he sides against the majority when he knows it makes no difference, we’ll pay attention to that instead of the cases where his vote if the significant one, and he sides againt his constituents?

I will happily throw my vote away to vote for a candidate who represents me.  If enough people do that, it’s NOT a throw away, funny how that math works, huh, how you can actually get people into office by voting based on platforms, and not major party lines.

That quick bit being said, SCCOR meeting tonight featured Rich Collins of the PGA… don’t even get me started on that…

Mike Castle & the birth certificate craze

The now infamous town hall meeting video…  Sussex County gives Castle a rousing cat call to let him know how we feel about Obama’s birth certificate (is this how YOU feel?).  The video (as of now) has had over 500,000 hits on you tube.

Lou Dobbs takes up the birth certificate … cause …

This is where I heard about it (my husband heard the show)

That being said, here is the official Angel Take.

This video is showing people how Delawareans act.  Now, what do people see here? People upset, yelling, booing, getting angry, but to calm them down saying the Pledge.  I salute the people that were able to attend this “town hall” meeting, and I’m glad Castle was … put in his place.

I’m hoping he won’t run again (of course, if he does he’ll play the sympathetic card and run Democrat).

I will not say anything about the woman who stood up in this crowd, all the locals know who she is, and many have an opinion about her from hearing her call WGMD.

I googled this and saw nothing but blogs (basically) discussing this video.

I love the attention it’s getting and I love people thinking of Delawareans as a group of angry activists.

Hopefully this video will incite locals to action.  Maybe we can get some of these people (including the half a million who have watched the video) to come to our protest, or check out www.sccor.org to see how some people try to constructively use their time.

We have Savage on right now, and while I may not agree with him, or like him very much, I agree with his freedom of speech take because of his recent ban.

This is simply a dedicated woman who sees angels and really believes if the birth certificate issue is researched our presidency will change hands.

Considering the changes being made in our government and country right now, I wish it was that easy of a fix.

~Angel~

I would like to add, while I may take a side stance on the birth certificate issue, as I feel it’s too late to do anything now whether I believe it or not, I thought it was deliciously ironic to see on the side when I googled “castle birth certificate” available at www.usbirthcertificate.com has official, certified birth certificates delivered in 2-3 days.

Jud Bennett reduces e-mails

Published July 21, 2009 by Sussex County Angel

In the interest of Judson Bennett reducing the number of e-mails he is sending out (I am still getting about 5-10 a day from him), he copied and pasted a few comments from the 122 e-mails he received in regards to the SCCOR protest.

Here’s what I noticed:

He never said how many people were for or against the protest, just that he was sent a lot of e-mails about it.

He listed 5 cons to 3 pros (objectively of course)

I want to comment on a few things people said, but instead I think I’ll remain objective as well.  It’s pretty obvious that anyone who agrees with SCCOR will go out of their way to attend.  Anyone who thinks stimulus money is great will not get their mind changed by me.  I have been suprised lately by the number of people who were unaware that the boardwalk is being funded by stimulus money.

As I read the e-mail Jud sent out, I couldn’t help but laugh as one writer commented that little children fall over nails which are sticking out of the boardwalk all the time.

Who here has ever seen a child fall over their own feet?  I have.  It’s funny to read that someone thinks every child that falls on the boardwalk does so over nails and not their own excitement.

If the boardwalk was in really bad condition, wouldn’t there be more bike accidents there?

An e-mail from Coast-to-coast (Jud)

Published July 19, 2009 by Sussex County Angel

I was sent this e-mail by the author, who obviously reads Jud’s e-mails.  I think it’s funny that it was not sent out (he normally send out like 5 a day).  I was pretty glad to get it though, I was starting to feel like I was wrong and not the stimulus package…

Dear Jud,

I agree with SCCOR.  The way that much of the stimulus money is being used creates only short term growth in jobs.  What happens in two years when the money runs out?  Instead, the stimulus money should have been used to invest in new industries and projects that will create sustainable growth for the long term future.

Of course DelDOT has to defend its position and they have done nothing wrong.  If money is being given out Delaware should get its fair share.  Unfortunately, because of the short term horizon many projects that would have made more sense were not ready to go so DelDOT had to do the best they could given the rules of the game.  That however, does not make it okay to spend billions of taxpayer dollars

for projects that are being done to keep people temporarily employed.  Future generations will not look kindly on this administration when their taxes keep going up. I think this is the point that SCCOR is trying to make and rightfully so.

I do not belong to SCCOR and have no affiliation with them, but I am glad that some one is out there saying stop spending our taxpayer money on projects that will not solve the problem it was meant to solve.

SCCOR Protest

Published July 16, 2009 by Sussex County Angel

Now, the time is at hand to discuss the first SCCOR protest.

As many have heard, it is at the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk on Sunday, August 2nd, 2009 from 2-4pm.  We are protesting the building of the boardwalk with stimulus handouts.

As I made this information public, I received a response from Darrel Cole of DelDOT which he sent out to Jud, and was e-mailed out on the infamous Coast-to-coast network.  I have been working on a response to Mr. Cole (well, I started one last night), and I suppose I will post it here and see what people have to say about it (like I expect comments…)

I probably don’t need the history lesson in it, but I felt like Mr. Cole needed it…

I am unsure as to how many people have researched FDR’s New Deal.  During his first 100 days in office, Franklin Delano Roosevelt created many government funded jobs and ensured work for people that were unemployed during the depression.  FDR was elected to 4 terms in office as President and is well known for lifting America out of the depression.

There have been recent developments in research and analysis regarding his policies.  A few websites that may be checked out are:

http://newsroom.ucla.edu/portal/ucla/FDR-s-Policies-Prolonged-Depression-5409.aspx

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123353276749137485.html

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Deal

A few reasons why one may say FDR’s New Deal actually prolonged the depression which stands out to me are relatively easy to understand.  I tend to pay attention to the excise taxes which hit hardest those who could least afford it.  I would point to the recent increases in cigarette and alcohol taxes.  The argument could be made that one should encourage these people to simply stop smoking or drinking, however, the cigarette taxes are being used to contribute to the SCHIP program.  I, personally, see extreme irony in using taxes from cigarettes to pay for healthcare.  Unfortunately, I digress.  I shall try to stick to the issue at hand, but as a history major, I tend to believe that history repeats itself and relate history to many aspects of current life.

So, it is easy to see which aspects of FDR’s New Deal relate to President Obama’s Stimulus Package.  The Stimulus Package money is to be used for “shovel-ready” projects (I will refrain from mentioning that since Rehoboth is currently packed with visitors, the rebuilding of the second half of the Boardwalk will have to wait until the “season” is over), many of which create jobs and improve the standard of living for those in the surrounding areas.

I will first discuss the creation of jobs which will occur rebuilding the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk.  I admit there will be people employed by rebuilding this Boardwalk.  I am glad people will be employed because of this endeavor (even though there was just a large debate regarding state employees, size of Delaware’s state government, and state employee pay cuts).  I do, however, wish I would not personally be paying for these people to be employed with my tax dollars.  When I look at family and children now, I do not immediately focus on their smiling, happy faces.  I see a number above their heads as to how much they are in debt because of paying for things like the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk project.

I suppose what I am really saying is that I do not want to pay for these 1200 people to be employed.  I am not trying to insult DelDOT, or Mr. Darrel Cole, and I appreciate the swift and informative response he gave to SCCOR’s protest plans.  I understand that there are two sides to every story, but I would like to ensure my side is made quite clear.  Having worked in Rehoboth (downtown) for many years, I have never personally heard a tourist complain about the quality of the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk.  I have never personally heard anyone say they would never return to Rehoboth based on the quality of their boardwalk.  I simply do not understand how receiving a federal handout in order to rebuild a boardwalk which is already functional will increase our tourism.  Lastly, and relatively importantly, I do not want to foot the bill for a possible increased tourism rate based on rebuilding a functional and prettier boardwalk.

Angel CLark’s response

Published July 16, 2009 by Sussex County Angel

I might add, I really liked what Elbert Collins sent to Jud… simple common sense shouldn’t be that hard to exercise here…

The Sussex County Community Organized Regiment (SCCOR) has never claimed to agree with the “popular” viewpoints held in America today.  While SCCOR has maintained a nonpartisan role that simply means SCCOR does not refuse membership based upon political affiliation.  That being said, it is important for a group to have a stance.  It is said, “A man who stands for nothing, falls for anything.”

As an active SCCOR member, I disagree with what Ms. Dixie Boucher has to say about SCCOR “refusing to discuss or debate with an open mind“, however, I will not have an open mind when it comes to the nationalization of healthcare and will do everything in my power to prevent said issue from becoming a reality.  One might say that there are times where it is necessary to take a stance and not budge on it. But, since I personally have reached the ripe age of 25, I must have “reach(ed) a certain age and … close(d) their minds, no longer listening, learning, changing or adapting to new information or viewpoints that often have merit to them.”

I had a chance to review the questions that were presented by the audience at the SCCOR debate on Tuesday, July 7, 2009.  Enclosed is a list of the questions that were presented for anyone that would like to review them.  These are the questions as they were written.  Please keep in mind, there were time constraints.  Also, several questions were aimed directly at Mr. Joe Booth, and therefore would not have been fair to ask both candidates.

Personally, I have been quite pleased with SCCOR, as well as with all SCCOR members have helped me accomplish.  It is pleasing to know I’m not the only person concerned and willing to act.

Property Rights

The state continues, through legislation and regulations, to take away the rights of property owners (to do with what they wish with those lands. What is your stance on personal property rights and what will you do to restore rights that have been stripped away?

Where do you each stand on Property Rights? If one person owns a home where he lives and which is his most valuable property, and another person a piece of land with trees and grass on it, both own property: do they have equal property rights under the law and in your judgment?

Loyalty to constituents

If 70-80% of your constituents tell you that they want something    but you believe the opposite, what would you do?

Budget

A) The governor summarily dismissed having state workers go to a four day, 40 hour work week to reduce the cost of government.

The governor and state legislature of Utah passed this exact same legislation and it has reduced their costs markedly

Will you propose such legislation?

B) State accepted $260 million of stimulus money that is not guaranteed for next year. What is your plan to be able to balance the budget without this money while reducing the size of government or raising taxes? Patricia Anderson

C) Markell stated in a letter to state employees that he realized that the current 2.5% reduction in state employee pay was not enough for a long term solution. What is you position on a long term solution to the size of government? Patricia Anderson

D) What is the economic outlook for the Delaware budget over the next two-three years?

Joe Booth

          A) On your watch as a representative,

1) How can you justify/explain running the $800 million deficit in this small state?

2) What will you do different as a senator to see this never happens again?

3) Will you sponsor an amendment to the Delaware constitution requiring no budget deficits?

          B) Sadly, you sponsored the recreational salt water fishing license tax. The only thing I’ve read about this outrageous tax is that it brought in $1.4 million but I and my friends have seen no benefits.

What did we get for our money? Do you have any regrets about sponsoring this tax bill? Would you consider sponsoring a bill to abrogate or rescind this abusive tax?

C) Joe booth was recently quoted in the Cape Gazette to say something to the effect that, although casinos have immoral implications, he would vote to allow Del Point because it would bring jobs to Sussex County.  Since it brings so much money to Kent and New Castle Counties, we should have it here, too.

So where do we stop allowing immoral activity so the government will make money?

D) What happened at the end of the legislative session was embarrassing. The Democrats didn’t have the desire to really make cuts in the budget, and the Republicans didn’t have the courage. Tax increases and fee increases followed. As Republicans, we could have hung that around the necks of the Democrats, except that they couldn’t have done it without Republican help.

Mr. Booth, are you willing to stand up and denounce the back room deals that allowed the dems to raise our taxes instead of making real cuts?

          E) Joe, if DELDOT is spending $50 million a year on outside consultants, why did you vote to give DELDOT the largest tax increase in the state’s history, doubling our tag fees,  license fees and increasing the tax on buying a car to 3.75% (i.e., for a $30,000 car, $1125 in taxes.

TERM LIMITS

Should legislators have term limits? If so, how many years?

HOMOSEXUAL RIGHTS

          A) For Parker: For many years, the man whose seat you have to fill stood fast against the creeping homosexual agenda. When the issue of homosexual marriage comes before you, will you vote for or against it?

          B) The recently passed SB121 includes sexual orientation within existing discrimination laws. Are you in favor of protective rights being extended to gays and lesbians?

U.S. CONSTITUTION

Do any of you have plans to introduce 10th Amendment legislation as 35 states have already done?

GUN CONTROL

What is your position on gun control?

IMMIGRATION

          A) According to FAIR, Illegal immigration is costing the state of Delaware $65 million in 2006, $112 million in 2010 and $196 million in 2020. With the budget crisis being what it is, what will you do to stop these unnecessary expenditures?

          B) With this health care program, how can this program pay for the 12,000,000 that come in from Mexico through the back door?

EDUCATION

          A) Are you in favor of school vouchers? (It would save millions.)

          B) State or county school system: get rid of all the superintendents and have just one over the entire school system.

          C) What are your views on having one school district in Sussex?

POLITICS

          A) Joe, do you think that Ed Parker dropping out was a ploy by the Democrats to see who the Republicans would pick so they could readjust their candidate pick?

          B) Will you be continuing the arbitrary “desk drawer veto” as was Senator Adams’s forte?

          C) I am very concerned about the quality of life in Sussex County, Especially the growth by Nassau Vineyards with NO 5 points overpass.

And finally, the racing sounds like it has been rubber-stamped?

          D) Ed Parker: Do you consider yourself to be what is known as a “blue dog democrat?” If yes, briefly explain why.

TRAFFIC

When are we enforcing the law on cell phone usage when driving?

We need to enforce people not using signal lights when driving.

Dixie Boucher’s SCCOR comments…

Published July 16, 2009 by Sussex County Angel

I have read about, listen on the radio to and watched on TV about SCCOR and I decided to find out for myself what they were all about.  I believe the problem with most organizations and political groups is that they are too focused.  They zero in on one side of an issue, and refuse to discuss or debate with an open mind, preventing them from altering or changing their viewpoint even a little.  That is why they become ineffective and things never seem to change.  People reach a certain age and seem to close their minds, no longer listening, learning, changing or adapting to new information or viewpoints that often have merit to them.

I would consider myself a conservative by nature, but that does not limit my ability to listen, and learn.  I had heard much about SCCOR and decided to go to the debate Tuesday to see what this group was all about and at the same time learn about the candidates running for Sen. Adams seat.  To be honest, based on what I had already heard from some of their people, I was hoping I was wrong about them.  I wasn’t.
What I found out is that they have a narrow point of view in their world of politics.  There does not appear to be any room for a difference of opinion, a different point of view, or a slight variation of any kind and I was very disappointed.

At the end of the “debate” between the  Republican candidate and the Libertarian candidate, the moderator said they had two questions regarding “Property Rights”.  He then proceeded to present their “party line question” not the one that went into a different aspect of property rights that would have given another aspect of the issue and perhaps caused the people there and the candidates themselves to think about the “complete issue”.  How do I know?  I wrote the other question.  They chose to play it safe to stick to their narrow point of view, not to discuss, not to listen, not to see another aspect, not to debate, but to take the hard “party” line.

They are another, “my way or the highway” group and while I do agree with them on some issues, if they refuse to discuss everything on the table, they will be ineffective. The law of life and nature is when you stop learning and growing, you die, so will SCCOR if they don’t open their minds up.
