Rick Santorum wants to ban internet porn

Have you evern had a moment where you realize that there is no chance someone will win an election? Rick Santorum has now sealed the deal with his recent campaign statement. This is not something he said in passing, this is something he felt was important enough to put in writing on his website.

America is suffering a pandemic of harm from pornography.

Rick Santorum has promised to “crack down” on pornography if elected president.

If elected, he promises to “vigorously” enforce laws that “prohibit distribution of hardcore (obscene) pornography on the Internet, on cable/satellite TV, on hotel/motel TV, in retail shops and through the mail or by common carrier.”

“Obscene” is defined as “offensive or disgusting by accepted standards of morality and decency.”

In other words, almost all pornography, “hardcore” or otherwise, could most likely be defined as obscene.

The Daily Caller points out how easy it would be for someone who wanted to ban pornography to do so, as well as the possible steps that could be taken:

“It wouldn’t be that difficult to close down a lot of the relatively visible websites that are used for the distribution of pornography, if they’re in the United States,”

Santorum’s administration could take American-based porn distributors to court for violating obscenity laws, said Volokh, and have them shuttered. But that would leave foreign-based sites untouched.

To black out foreign sites, Santorum would likely need legislative action requiring Internet service providers to use “a mandatory filter set up by the government or by the service providers,” said Volokh.

But the government could also prosecute individual citizens who view porn, and already has the legal authority to do it.

“Although the Supreme Court says private possession is constitutionally protected, it has said that private receipt of [pornography] is not protected,” noted Volokh. “You can’t prosecute them all … but you can find certain types of pornography that are sufficiently unpopular” for easy convictions, he explained.

You may not look at pornography and you may not approve of it, but does that mean you want to see others unemployed if they work in the sex industry? Would you like your tax dollars to go towards imprisoning people who watched pornography online?

Do you know anyone who watches pornography?

How likely do you think that person is to vote for Rick Santorum now?

Do you think you may know someone who watched pornography and doesn’t tell you about it? How much do you know about the people you interact with on a regular basis?

According to Forbes, pornogrpahy is a $14 billion a year industry with Americans paying $1 to $4 billion to buy pornography films every year. Is it a good idea to focus on destroying these jobs?

This writer will not be voting for a man who wants to focus on the “War on Pornography”… Will you?

  1. Hi! This question is mostly for Asian guys, what would you think if you see an Asian girl, with a body type close to Latina’s, curvy, full hips-with a round bottom, big breast, pretty small waist ? Do you think that type of body is attractive, or would you prefer skinny? Would you be interested or at least consider to introduce yourself to her? She is not plus-size or overweight.
