It seems that Mitt Romney’s staffers have a better sense of humor than the candidate himself. Mitt Romney was nicely trolled for April Fool’s Day.
It was not just Mitt Romney’s campaign staff who were involved, Congressman Paul Ryan and Senator Ron Johnson were also in on this gig.
Picture this scenario:
Romney was ready to speak to a group in Milwaukee at a pancake breakfast. He waited behind a black curtain backstage, ready to make his dramatic entrance. Congressman Paul Ryan introduces Romney first as “the next president of the United States!” Loud applause starts and Romney’s intro music “Born Free”, by Kid Rock, starts playing. Senator Ron Johnson leads the way as Romney follows him to the stage.
Where there’s no one there.
“It’s completely empty!” Romney said, save for a handful of aides. “There’s nobody there. I thought, ‘Oh, boy, this is gonna look really bad on the evening news, let me tell you.’ ”
“So not only did they do that, but they caught it on camera,” Romney said. “You guys — this is known as ‘forgive but remember,’ I’ll tell ya. We’re gonna remember this.”
The whole thing was obviously a set-up. Ryan and Johnson were in on the prank which had been organized by Romney’s travelling aides. The applause was a soundtrack played through speakers.
Romney went on to speak at the real event and have a pancake breakfast.
One has to wonder how long those aides will be employed by Romney…
