Independent Lynne Torgerson turned Republican and dislikes Ron Paul Libertarians

Lynne Torgerson is a Republican candidate for U.S. Congress who posted a controversial blog post on her website (which only allows members to comment, all 13 of them) about “Ron Paul Libertarians” on Monday.

On Saturday, April 14, 2012, I attended the Republican 5th Congressional District Endorsing Convention.

There was a stage at the front of the room. Approximately 6 people were seated on the stage. Every person seated was a Ron Paul Libertarian. The Convention was overrun by Ron Paul Libertarians. More than 2/3 of the delegates were Ron Paul Libertarians. When I mentioned that we were at a Republican Convention, they laughed out loud.

They began the Convention. There was no opening prayer. Not even a mention of it.

There was also no Pledge of Allegiance to the US flag.

Then, a man up front stood up and requested that we recite the Pledge of Allegiance. But alas, upon looking around, there was not a flag to be seen.

Then, a clown came forward, dressed in garb, with a very large hat, that somewhat resembled a flag. In Wikipedia, wearing a flag is a form of flag desecration. Wikipedia states the following:

It is increasingly common to see clothing with the image of the flags forming a substantial part of the piece. Views vary as to whether some of this is an act of disrespect.

Such actions may be undertaken for a variety of reasons:

– As a protest against a country’s foreign policy.
– To distance oneself from the foreign or domestic policies of one’s home country.
– As a protest at the very laws prohibiting the actions in question.
– As a protest against nationalism.
– As a protest against the government in power in the country, or against the country’s form of government.
– A symbolic insult to the people of that country.

So it appears that this person was wearing the US flag in order to desecrate our flag.

The clown in the flag suit then went up front and stood on the stage. We were then led in the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. Stunning. To me this seemed a further desecration of the US flag and the Pledge of Allegiance. I refused to participate.

Lynne’s diatribe continued, but this writer feels the need to point out a few things.  At many Republican events, people wear the American flag, on shirts, hats, and as pins.  American flag apparel is mass-produced by hundreds if not thousands of companies.  It is offensive to state that people only wear the American flag as an act of disrespect and desecration.  These TEA Party members, in fact, would most likely disagree.  It seems that Wikipedia may not be the best source (as anyone who has ever written a research paper understands).

Lynne also seems to blame the “Libertarians” for not having made sure there was an American flag in sight.  If Lynne was at a Republican event, shouldn’t that be the task of the Republicans who organized the event?  Lynne also mentions that there was no prayer to start the meeting, but it seems that she never offered to lead a prayer.  One doubts that prayers would have been denied as most “Libertarians” value free speech.

This is what is going on in your Republican Party folks.

Lynne fails to mention, despite the many times that she states that this is happening in “your” party, that in 2010, when Lynne ran for office in Minnesota, that she didn’t deign to join the Republican Party.  In fact, when Lynne ran for office in 2010, and gathered less than 4 percent of the votes, Lynn Torgerson was an Independent.  It seems that Lynne dislikes seeing the party she just joined go the way of Liberty.

Please note that Libertarians, who actually have PROGRESSIVE positions:

– want to eliminate the TSA
– want to eliminate the Patriot Act
– are anti-war
– are pro gay rights
– don’t want to protect Life with legislation
– have a pro Muslim agenda
– are generally anti-Christian
– don’t want to support Israel
– don’t want to prevent a nuclear Iran
– want to legalize illegal drugs
– want to legalize prostitution

Lynne Torgerson continues to rant about how she was treated unfairly, not given enough time to speak, and how she was laughed at when she pointed out that she was at a Republican convention.  It is funny how political parties beg younger members to join them, and then criticize the ideals of those crazy kids today.  You may not be aware of much of the Libertarian platform, but Ronald Reagan certainly respected and valued their opinions.

If you analyze it I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism.”

One comment regarding Lynne’s list of “progressive” positions sums it up nicely:

“- want to eliminate the TSA”
Darn right, we want to eliminate the TSA!  The TSA is an abomination to the fourth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States!  It is completely unconstitutional!  There are MUCH better ways to protect people from terrorist attack!
“Man is not free unless government is limited.  There’s a clear cause and effect here that is as neat and predictable as a law of physics: As government expands, liberty contracts.  – Ronald Reagan”
– want to eliminate the Patriot Act
Again ABSOLUTELY!  The Patriot Act extends the powers of the Federal Government in violation of the fourth Amendment!  It allows people to be held without cause, clearly violating the Constitution!  Why would any sane Republican want to put someone in office who clearly supports legislation that violates her oath of office to support and defend the Constitution of the United States!
“Our natural, inalienable rights are now considered to be a dispensation from government, and freedom has never been so fragile, so close to slipping from our grasp as it is at this moment.”  Ronald Reagan
– are anti-war
Are we supposed to be pro-war?  What kind of sick person is Pro-war?  Do you even listen to yourself?  Yes, I am against the killing of millions of people down through history!

This anti-war writer, who wants to eliminate the TSA, the Patriot Act, the NDAA, and Obamacare, as well as legalize consenting capitalist acts, wants to point out that Ron Paul is a registered Republican.  Lynne Torgerson seems to believe that she is the best person to speak for the Republican Party.  If this is true, maybe she’ll receive more than four percent of the vote in this election!
