Rick Santorum bashes Mitt Romney ‘frightens me’ to think of him as the nominee

On Monday, some letters sent out by Rick Santorum were received in Iowa.  It seems that although Rick Santorum has suspended his campaign for president, just like he is still paying off his debt, he had already mailed some letters.

These letters warned Iowans that Rick Santorum was frightened by the thought of Mitt Romney as the party’s nominee.  This contradicts the views many thought Rick Santorum would take after dropping out of the race.  If Rick Santorum were to endorse Mitt Romney, there could be a chance that Romney would pay off Santorum’s campaign debt.  Santorum had a conference call with 4,000 supporters Monday night where he asked for more contributions.

As I said last evening I am very excited about the possibilities for what we can continue to accomplish together and I am not backing down from the fight for our conservative ideals. We must and will focus on energizing conservatives so our values are reflected in our Party platform and our national discourse. If we are going to defeat Barack Obama and restore our conservative principles to government we must work together or we will never succeed.

If you have already donated thank you! Once we settle our debt, we aren’t going to look back. I am so very optimistic about what we can accomplish working together!

Apparently, Obama paid off the debts for Clinton in 2008 so this is not an unusual expectation.

Rick Santorum was called a ‘social issues conservative’ by many and made headlines with his statements about banning pornography.  He began to gain traction in the GOP race shortly before the January 3 caucuses and won Iowa.  Rick Santorum had wins in Iowa, Missouri, Colorado, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Tennessee, North Dakota, Kansas, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Rick Santorum endorsed Mitt Romney in 2008.

The Santorum letters stated:

“There’s still time for conservatives if we act now to win this primary to make sure our party doesn’t nominate a Massachusetts Moderate to run against Obama,” the mailer says, according to the Des Moines Register. “It truly frightens me to think what’ll happen if Mitt Romney is the nominee.”

If this is how Rick Santorum truly feels, his supporters should take this into consideration when deciding who to support next.  Santorum also stated that Republicans and conservatives will be “crippled” with Romney as the nominee as he presents “zero contrast” with Obama.

“Any attempt by Mitt Romney to attack President Obama’s positions on health-care, energy policy, social issues, or the economy will be easily neutralized.”

Do you think Mitt Romney can defeat President Obama?  This writer does not.
